Landing was once a transportation hub for Lake Hopatcong with the Lackawanna Railroad, Morris County Traction Company, and two different steamboat companies all converging to deliver passengers to their destinations around the popular resort. Spectacular images of the Lackawanna, Black Line and White Line steamers, and trolley will give you a whole new perspective of this area and explain just how Landing got its name. Of all the attractions and amusements that have existed at Lake Hopatcong, none was more beloved than Bertrand Island Park. Following the 47 minute narrated documentary, authors of the video’s script, Marty and Laurie Kane, will take questions and lead a discussion about the park.

We are happy to collaborate with the Canal Society of New Jersey on a virtual program about how the Morris Canal created the Lake Hopatcong we know today. This free presentation will take place on Zoom on Friday evening, March 19, at 7:30pm. You can find information about the program, including a zoom link, on the Canal Society website at https://canalsocietynj.org/events.
The museum will be open to the public on Tuesday, August 24 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A great chance to learn about the lake’s history!
